Sofia Schizas, b.1982 Abeokuta, is a visual artist currently living and working in Nicosia.
Particularly motivated by the use of two and three dimensional elements and how these two are interrelated to a certain extent, her practise is mostly manifested in forms of painting, sculpture and works on paper, combining all three to create the body of work. Engaging with different art forms, a solid interest in sculptural materials, bold forms and imperfect geometric shapes that are interconnected with her strong affection to colour, texture and composition, thus reflected in her body of work and in her daily practise as an artist.
‘Black Shapes & Blue Circles’ is a short series of studies drawn in late 2016 whilst living in Barcelona. Originally intended for paintings, some of which are already painted, these works on paper have been in her studio helping her in her research for new work. Inspired by the work of Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida and Catalan painter Joan Miró, these studies created out of impulse, are part of the interlocking pieces that conclude to what her work is currently being directed to.
The series of works are on display and available for sale at hugå studio until March 16th 2019, as part as of our on going exhibition of artwork by local artists and designers.
